What Is Internet Of Things?

Of the many seemingly magical advancements in electronics, the Internet of Things (IoT) is the one I think you will incorporate most into your life and work in this new year. Through internet connectivity, we can now have our devices “talk” to each other. Did you forget to lock up when you rushed out of the house this morning? No problem; just push a button on your phone. Need to have various components of what you manufacture arrive for shipping at a new time? That can now be changed and implemented without even a phone call. The Internet of Things means you can control objects and operations like a smart home, smart office, car automation, and certainly security systems—in real time.

IoT Redefines Function And Convenience

There are now over 11 billion “smart” devices in use all over the world. They have already proved their value for reducing the cost of operations, finding and claiming new business opportunities, and even for making investments. I’m sure we can expect rapid advancements in IoT platforms, sensors, actuators, networks, and even in global data analysis. There are many great reasons for function devices and convenience devices to intake, record and sometimes even smell information for the betterment of business and life in general.

One word of caution, however. These devices are collecting and sharing data. Collecting and sharing your data. And we know that where data is stored, then hacking can be possible. I believe that Internet of Things will also redefine “privacy.”

Let’s keep that in mind as we move forward with this latest and greatest electronic innovation. I think it’s here to stay. And if you have questions about IoT, give us a call. Helping you understand technology is our favorite responsibility.
