Every day it’s something new in our IT management service. Recently at Aptica, we have been fighting computers going to ‘sleep’ within a minute or two, even after being configured not to. Has this happened to you? We have found that the following steps resolve this issue. This seems to be a common new problem and can be a tough one to fix permanently. Take a look.
How to fix your “sleeping” computer
- Click on the Windows icon
- Type: regedit
- Right-click on the regedit icon, click Run as administrator
- Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\

- Enter number 2
- Go to Advanced power settings (click on Windows button, write power options, click on Power Options, in the selected plan click on the Change plan settings, click on the Change advanced power settings)
- Click Sleep, then System unattended sleep timeout, then change these settings from 2 minutes to 20 minutes, for example.
◊ Commonly seen on Windows 8/8.1 and 10 PCs
◊ Use this fix as a last resort, once all other options have been tested
◊ Used to resolve issues with your PC going to sleep regardless of power plan/power options settings. In most cases, a PC will go to sleep after only 1-2 minutes of idle time.
